The new album by Infinity MusiQ features 19 tracks. I’ve been listening to it this week, although I was already familiar with some of the songs and I can say without hesitation that it’s two hours and eight minutes of rhythms and sounds that transport you straight to South Africa.
Infinity MusiQ is a young talent from Klipspruit West, a neighborhood in Soweto known both for being the site where the Freedom Charter was adopted in 1955 and for its informal settlements and illegal camps. He is just 19 years old. It’s astonishing that such young artists, especially from South Africa are capable of creating audio pieces that are true works of art. They are the foundation of a genre amapiano that becomes increasingly solid thanks to these youth movements.
The album I want to highlight is titled Rebirth. We can assume that, with this release, he aims to mark a new chapter in his career, one that reinforces his unique musical voice.
Without abandoning the instrumental line he has been developing throughout his musical journey, this album seems to be the result of his evolution in rhythm and sound an extension of his past work, but more mature and defined.
It opens strongly with “Go with Them”, builds momentum with the second track, and reaches a particularly notable point with “Saka Infinity”, the third track. On the other hand, “Vibe in Sgidongo”, featuring The Musiq Dentist, also manages to shine as an emotional and well-crafted piece.
